GASTRO ESOPHAGEAL REFLUX DISEASE
GERD ( Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease) is a common condition of the digestive system that causes the gastric acid from the stomach to flow back into the esophagus (food pipe). The gastric acid is a strong acid which helps in the breakdown of food in the stomach. When this highly corrosive acid flows back into the esophagus it causes irritation of the lining of the esophagus. When this backflow happens more frequently and repeatedly it can damage the lining significantly and result in a number of symptoms. These group of symptoms are termed under GERD.
CAUSES –
