POLYCYSTIC OVARIAN SYNDROME

 PCOS is manifested by the Absence of menses, Abnormal Facial Hair and
increase in weight associated with Enlarged Polycystic Ovaries

CAUSES:

There are multiple causes, but very common ones are:
1. Dietary Factors – Taking large quantities of the following foods may lead to
PCOS- Dairy products, White Sugar, White flour, White rice (when taken in
excess), gluten grains, alcohol, refined or hydrogenated oils, caffeine & high
carb foods. Most of the packaged foods contain a lot of sugar and
preservatives can also be a cause.
2. Prolonged Stress & Depression
3. Sedentary lifestyle

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS:

These are very commonly seen in females:
1. Obesity (Belly fat – 50%)
2. Irregular Menses (70%)
3. Abnormal growth of Hair on Women’s Face & Body.
4. Acne
5. Skin discoloration in the nape of the neck, inner thighs, underarm.
6. Increased Hair fall & Thinning of hair.

COMPLICATIONS:

PCOS can lead to:
 Infertility
 Diabetes Mellitus (15%)
 Endometrial Cancer

GENERAL MANAGEMENT OF PCOS

Both Diet & Exercise plays an important role in the management of PCOS. Take a

Diet
 Eat Organic Foods. Limit Sugar; Include Healthy fats & proteins in your
diet.

 Eat Any Seasonal Fruits. Eat whole. Avoid juices.
Exercise
